Trojan Removal Guide

What is Trojan? (Run SpyHunter's malware scanner to check for Trojan)

A Trojan (Trojan.Win32, Trojan.Agent) is a destructive program that masquerades as a harmless application. The worst kind of Trojan is the one that claims to be a legitimate program to remove viruses from your PC, but really re-infects your computer with viruses.

Rogue anti-spyware programs will often install a Trojan (Trojan.Win32) to download a trial version or to pop up fake security warnings that look similar to Windows notifications, in order to trick you into purchasing their full version. Rogue anti-spyware programs that use Trojans -- such as IEDefender, Zlob, AntiVirGear, SpyShredder, WinAntiVirus Pro 2007, Ultimate Cleaner and SecurePCCleaner -- should not be trusted.

Variant: Trojan.Win32.LinkReplacer, Trojan.Win32.Obfuscated.gx, Trojan.Win32.agent.akk ....

Trojan Manual Removal Instructions

So you've discovered that you've been infected with Trojan or other types of spyware. Now you want to manually remove it and prevent further damage to your computer. To remove Trojan or other malware components, please follow the instructions below.

Note: This Trojan manual removal process is difficult and you run the risk of destroying your computer. We highly recommend you use SpyHunter's malware scan.

  1. Download Autoruns program, and extract it from the .Zip archive..

  2. Move Autoruns to your C:drive.

  3. Reboot your system into Safe Mode. (Since malicious programs can regenerate files whenever they are removed in Normal Mode, only in Safe Mode--which leaves the most essential programs activated--can you remove the majority of the malware in your PC.).

  4. Open the C:\Autoruns folder and double-click on autoruns.exe.

  5. AutoRuns shows in different tabs what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login. Go through all the tabs to search for the malicious file under the Image Path column. Most likely the file name you're looking for is under the Logon or the Services tabs. You will probably see several entries associated with spyware since malicious programs can create multiple startup entries. Also, make sure that you have the correct filename and folder that you want to remove -- malware programs tend to mask their file names as legitimate files.

  6. Once the program is opened, click on the "Options Menu" and click on/checkmark the following options:
    • Include empty locations
    • Verify Code Signatures
    • Hide Signed Microsoft Entries

  7. Press the F5 key on your keyboard to update the startups list with the new settings.

  8. Search for the entry that has Trojan or spyware components. Once you find them, delete the entry so it will not appear the next time you reboot.

  9. Since you've prevented the malicious program from starting on boot up, you can delete the file by going to "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer".

  10. Once you've finished removing the spyware entries from the Registry and deleting the processes, you can reboot into Normal Mode.
